What Is Micro-Housing And Is It For You?

So what exactly is micro-housing?  Well, a micro-housing unit is usually a living space that is somewhere between 220 square feet and 375 square feet.   Due to a high demand for affordable housing, these micro-housing units are becoming very popular in the major cities like New York and Boston.

This is a great middle class housing solution that comes with a pretty hefty price tag.  A micro-apartment is like a studio apartment but much smaller.   These micro-apartments require some pretty creative space saving ideas to make them work effectively.  Think  Murphy bed and portable furniture.
New York currently has a law that any apartment that is built must have a minimum of 400 square feet.  However, that is changing.  Mayor Bloomberg has a micro-housing project that will have 55 micro units in it with sizes varying from 250 square feet to 370 square feet and they are being rented for $2000 per month for people who make less than $75,000.

New York City is one of the most expensive cities in America to live and they have about 27% of their citizens who live alone.   The single segment of our population is flocking to big urban cities that are already overcrowded; therefore, creating an even greater demand for these micro-apartment units.

Many New Yorkers believe, however, that they have already cut enough corners just to live there and now they are being asked to cut their living space as well.  It is believed that these smaller spaces with inflated prices will just make the larger living spaces more expensive and unattainable.  And this will cause many people to give up on ever owning their own home there.

However, some singles like the idea and are willing to give up a little space just to be able to live there.  So it appears that, just like anything else, there are two sides to this argument.

Florida REO bargains can’t help but catch your eye when you’re searching through the latest residential offerings. Whether you are a future homeowner or an investor looking for an opportunity that makes financial sense, bargain basement prices are hard to skip past.

Florida REO homes (the “REO” is Real Estate Owned, meaning bank-owned) are still being offered at relatively low prices — sometimes, remarkably low prices. But like skilled investors in any realm, successful REO buyers make sure they know why those prices are where they are. In the REO world, the standout factor is this: buying REO means cutting out a proud owner who cares, instead dealing with a bank that wants to sell. It’s a personal pride deficit that inevitably translates to the bottom line. So finding winning REO opportunities to Jacksonville, St. Johns, Orange Park, Ponte Vedra, St Augustine, Palm Coast, Middleburg, Yulee, San Marco, Mandarin, The Beaches, Keystone Heights, Green Cove Springs, Fruit Cove Springs, Amelia Island, Fleming Island, Fernandina Beach, Yulee, Callahan  means hard headed assessment of the minuses as well as the plusses.

For sure, banks are not in the business of losing money. They may not wish to remain landlords, but they have an asset on their books, and want to get the most for it. They are looking at Florida’s real estate market, too; when we see the direction that prices are heading, they do, too. If their cost of holding onto an asset is less than it was last year, a standout bargain basement price is almost certainly condition-based. Unlike owner-owned offerings, banks have no interest in perfecting a home prior to sale. More importantly, they have fewer mandatory disclosure obligations. Ca-ching!

Most everyone with any relocating experience should recognize ‘the moment.’

No matter how much advance thought and elbow grease you’ve put in, that’s the moving day moment when everything seems to starts happening at once, and there’s literally no time left to attend to the stray details you’ve been meaning to take care of …

It’s all but inevitable: the yellow pad that you’ve organized with all the contact information you need today more than any other day: why, it’s packed! and sealed! inside one of the cartons that’s already out there in the van!

When you’re relocating from (or to) Florida, the unplanned will always happen. Nevertheless, you can control the areas that have the most impact on how successful your move will be.

One element that needs careful attention is the people part. It’s too easy to lose touch with those who are important in your life, so decide early how to announce to family and friends your relocating timetable. With a little preparation and imagination, it’s possible to turn events like garage sales and going-away parties into really fun celebrations.

A good idea is to assemble key belongings in a box that will accompany you: important documents like passports and birth certificates, jewelry, or other prized possessions.

Most household moving veterans agree that the single most vital step is securing a dependable moving company.
